Mungana Self Guided Cave Tour
Take a picnic lunch and explore at your own leisure.
How to Get There
Mungana Caves are toward Normanton the turnoff is 16.5 Kms on gravel road. You will cross over a disused railway line at 6.4 Kms, then at 16 Kms you will be passing the Old Mungana Township turnoff. Go straight ahead and the Mungana Caves turn off is only another 500 Mtrs on the right. Heading in off the highway, you will come across Aboriginal Paintings at 1.1 Kms then a little further on are the self guided caves.
We suggest you take a good torch to be able to fully appreciate the caves. As you enter slightly downward, you will feel a sudden change in temperature, it's quite refreshing. There is also a squeeze hole which is worth going through as there is a splendid auditorium beyond and is perfect for a picnic.
Grab a Visitors Guide from the HUB information Centre for the Chillagoe-Mungana Caves, in there you will find many other caves and rock formations to visit.
